In consideration of the spiritual turbulence of these times, we decided to include a composition based on the ‘long mantra’ associated with a special form of Enlightened Being, originally introduced into Tibet by Padmasambhava along with medicinal texts. Popularly known as Medicine Buddha, his deep blue body color symbolizes the open depths of space, the cosmic wellspring of the power to heal ourselves and the environment, to liberate sentient beings from all forms of disease, both inner and outer. Among his retinue of seven, there are two assistant Buddhas, known as King of Melody and Resounding Dharma Melody whose healing powers include the sound of music. One of the vows taken by Medicine Buddha is a promise to cure and enlighten anyone who hears his mantra or repeats his name; May it be so.
