Lack of faith

LACK OF FAITH, LACK OF TRUST [ma dad pa]

(always appears along with elation/depression, ignorance, laziness, and shamelessness)

What is lack of trust? It is the mind associated with the category bewilderment-erring which does not have deep conviction, has lack of trust, and has no desire for things positive. It provides the basis for laziness.

It is a perponderance of dullness which is not conducive to trust. There are three kinds:

1.    Lack of trust which does not have a deep conviction regarding the relationship between action and its result and is not conducive to trusting confidence
2.    Lack of trust which is not clear about the virtues of the Three Jewels, finds no joy in their contemplation, and is not conducive to lucid confidence
3.    Lack of trust which is not concerned with liberation -- and does not even want it -- and is not conducive to longing confidence

Its function is easily understood.
